Your motivation and your interest may falter the longer you get into your weight loss journey. It was easy to start but it may seem hard to keep going. What's a way that you can figure out how to have the same drive as everyone else around you? What are they doing to stay on top of things?

First, identify your weight loss goals. Are you looking for significant weight loss, or are you looking just to tone your body? Is there a target weight that you want your body to have? Perhaps you are one of the many who wants to work for a stronger body, with more energy and endurance.

Making a graph of your weight loss is a wonderful way to stay on top of the progress you are making. Make sure that you weigh yourself each week, so you know what is working and what is not. Writing in your weight loss journal helps you stay accountable and make better eating choices over time.

Being hungry can lead to poor food choices. Try to make decisions about what to eat and when to eat before you are feeling those intense hunger pangs. Be sure you do not wait until you are really starving before you eat. Create your menus in advance, and never be without healthy snack foods. Bring a healthy meal from home instead of going out for lunch. In addition to being low in calories it will also help you save some money. You're much more likely to break your diet if you've gone a long time without eating. Don't wait until you're starving to sit down to a meal. Pre-plan your daily meals and have a few healthy snacks at hand. Bring your own lunch instead of going out to eat. This will be easy both on your wallet and on your calorie count.

A successful weight loss program consists of proper eating habits along with regular exercise. Clear your schedule for a few hours a week to enjoy some fun workouts. If you keep neglecting exercise because it is boring, then use the activities you enjoy to get some exercise. Do you enjoy spending time with your friends? Then you could play a game of basketball with them, or some other sport you like. Is letting your hair down something that you enjoy doing? Dance classes may be the way to go. Do you prefer to escape into the world of wildlife and visit areas of outstanding natural beauty? Put on your hiking boots and enjoy nature while walking toward fitness.

Take all the junk food out of your kitchen. If you have an ample amount of healthful choices on hand, the temptation to reach for junk food will diminish. Once you have gotten rid of all the unhealthy foods from your home, then they aren't readily available as a temptation for you to snack on.

Workout with someone you know. In many cases, if there is nobody to keep us accountable, we tend to slack off and neglect what is best for us. If someone else is exercising alongside you, you'll be less likely to take a break when the workout starts to wear you down. By encouraging one another, you'll increase both of your chances for success.

Kayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17220909001344063027noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8550458412853688489.post-5010043354530961312013-03-24T09:32:00.001-07:002013-03-24T09:32:20.565-07:00Tips To Avoid Chronic AcneAre you struggling with acne problems? These are all common conditions for teenagers, young adults and even middle-aged individuals. You should never be afraid! Every problem has a solution.

Remember the old saying, you are what you eat? It's true! When your diet consists primarily of processed foods, your body will have a tough time keeping your skin in good condition. To differ from this, make sure to eat fruits and vegetables in quantity, quality and variety. Fatty meats and sugary foods should be cut from your diet whenever possible. Adhering to a healthful and nutritious eating plan will give your body the resources it needs to stave off infections, including acne.

Keeping your body hydrated should always be an important goal for your health. The thirst-quenching effect of soda is just an illusion. Be sure to drink more water than soft drinks. If you'd like to enjoy a sweet drink every now and then, prepare fresh juice with a juicer. Freshly-made juice is great for your skin and your body.

You may want to think about using Maca. There are no known side effects, and it works to balance the systems in your body. Maca comes in a powdered form, so it is extremely easy to take. Start with a small dose, and be sure to follow the directions on the packaging in order to get optimum results.

Cleansers with harsh chemicals can damage your skin and should be avoided. Cleansers that contain harsh chemicals can make acne worse. Instead of using harsh, over-the-counter products, try using a gentle cleanser that contains a natural antibiotic, such as tea tree oil.

Garlic is a great home remedy which kills bacteria found in pimples. Crush a couple cloves of the garlic and put it on the areas that are currently suffering from acne. Keep it away from your eye area. You should also be aware that the garlic will sting open sores, but it works to quickly reduce your infection. Keep the garlic on your skin for a few minutes before rinsing it off.

For smaller pores, a mask made from green clay may do the trick. Clay absorbs excess oils from your skin. You should rinse well and gently dry your face after removing the mask. If any traces of the mask remain, remove them with a clarifying agent such as witch hazel.

One big factor on skin is stress. When you are stressed out, your body cannot fight infection as well. Skin can clear up when stress is reduced.

By using the advice in this article, you will start to see an improvement in your skin. To achieve the type of skin that you desire, make sure to cleanse your face two times a day, use a garlic treatment and apply a mask every week. Always remember that consistency is the name of the game.

Kayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17220909001344063027noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8550458412853688489.post-74101128390403326152013-03-12T07:34:00.000-07:002013-03-12T07:34:35.613-07:00Cures For Your Bothersome Acne IssuesIf you have blackheads or acne breakouts, the following article will help you out. Tons of people have acne. This website can offer you the advice you need to help reduce breakouts.

One of the most important steps you can take is to devise a healthy diet plan. Eating junk food on a regular basis is unhealthy and causes a variety of problems. Consume lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. Eat only portions of meat that are lean and eliminate or reduce sugar from your diet. If your do these things, your body will have the essential vitamins and minerals it needs to function properly.

Try to keep your body well hydrated at all times. Drinks full of sugar will only make you feel more thirsty. Sugar and caffeine do not help the cause, so you should always just drink water. If you want flavor and like juice, try juicing your own veggies and fruits. Fresh juice is better for you and your complexion than store bought juice.

Try out the great supplement called Maca. Maca powder is a great equalizer when it comes to a number of different bodily systems and functions. There are no adverse side effects. It is important that you begin with small doses and follow the manufacturer's supplied directions.

Always try to avoid harsh chemicals for your skin. If your skin is stripped of it's natural defenses, it can become dry and open to infection. Always try to look for natural, gentle cleansers that do not employ harsher chemicals. Have you considered tea tree oil?

Another thing you can use to kill the bacteria found in pimples is garlic. Mash up some garlic cloves and apply it to the irritated patches. Always avoid your eyes as they are quite sensitive. This will probably sting a little, but getting rid of the infection is worth the momentary pain. Be sure that you rinse your face well and dry it after a few minutes.

Lather a green clay mask onto your face to make pores smaller. People with excessively oily complexions will find that a clay mask can be an effective way to deal with the oil. You should thoroughly rinse your skin as soon as the mask is dry. Witch hazel can remove the clay mask from your skin after you dry it.

If you are under stress, one of the first places it will show is your skin. Stress causes your skin to breakout and puts a strain on your immune system. When your immune system is compromised, it is not as able to combat infections, skin problems, and so on. If you can lower your stress levels, you will notice skin improvements.

Your skin will show great improvements if you start incorporating these ideas in to your skincare routine. By maintenance and a routine, you will have healthier skin. A facial mask on a weekly basis, combined with a routine that cleanses your skin day and night, will keep it at its optimum.

Kayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17220909001344063027noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8550458412853688489.post-63950018846870182042013-02-18T07:59:00.000-08:002013-02-18T07:59:05.805-08:00Surgical Tools, From Beginning to Now

The history of medical devices and surgical tools spans back much further than most in modern times give it credit for. In-fact, there is emerging, new evidence that shows that humans have been using tools to perform surgical operations since we were still cavemen. Though these tools were rough, and only polished throughout many centuries, these first tools inspired man and taught us that lives can be saved, and quality of life can be increased through the correct use of inanimate objects.

The original surgical tools were actually little more than rocks that peoples had found, and had a utilitarian shape. Sharp edges, tube-shapes, and blunt-edges all soon served their own medical purposes. As a matter of fact, the Mayans reportedly used conical rocks as drills, both for carpentry purposes, and as a drill to bore through skull and bone. Around the 16th century, the first hypodermic needles began to take shape. The gargantuan needles were up to a centimeter in diameter, and destroyed more veins than they did save lives.

Coupling syringe technology with classical medical and surgical instrument designs, Karl Storz and other physicians interested in advancing medical equipment design, began toying with a new kind of medical equipment that they deemed "endoscopy equipment." The main aim of this equipment was to allow physicians to look inside the body by making tools more minute, so that they could be delivered into the body via a syringe-like tube. These inventions revolutionized the medical industry and showed us that innovative new technology can be dreamed up, that builds upon existing technology.Kayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17220909001344063027noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8550458412853688489.post-16835083688520135772013-02-08T08:16:00.000-08:002013-02-08T08:16:06.754-08:00CT Scans That Reveal Historical Mysteries

The recent unveiling of the bones of King Richard the III, whose remains were unearthed underneath an English parking lot, has revealed much to the world. We now know that the King's painfully advanced scoliosis was in-fact real, and we can see it on the curvature of the spine -- in the reassembled bones. We can also see the gruesome marks from his death, including a sharp-edged crack to the top of the cranium, and slice marks on the pelvic bone (which suggest that the King may have had a more graphic demise than just the blow to the head).

All of these discoveries came to light with the use of CT scanning equipment an other nuclear medicine devices. As a matter of fact, there are hundreds of ancient mysteries, the truth of which are beginning to unravel to us through the use of nuclear medicine services. Not only is the same technology used for find buried remains, and located evidence below the surface, but when it comes time to determine prior medical conditions and cause of death, CT scans show the rich history that took place in a flash.

Though King Richard III's discovery and examination was hundreds of years in the waiting, homicide investigators and crime scene forensic professionals use the same techniques in investigating more recent homicides and crimes. This shows the insurmountable evidence that these nuclear medicine technology machines can not only save lives, but can also tell the untold stories of victims whose lives were not able to be saved. Giving the dead a voice, and keeping the living with a voice -- it's all in a day's work for these miracles of modern medical technology.Kayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17220909001344063027noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8550458412853688489.post-53541538961235905012013-02-05T08:17:00.000-08:002013-02-05T08:18:41.359-08:00Terrifying Side Effects of Synthetic Marijuana

Health professionals never like to show the terrifying effects that drugs can and will eventually have on a person, but it is a necessary evil in order to warn others of the dangers and convince them to stop. There have been many campaigns published and marketed over the years that use frightening pictures of weight loss, or tooth decay, or tumors; all of those campaigns were meant to show just exactly how scary drug use and addiction can be. The newest push to show the dangers of synthetic marijuana, however, are not a campaign, it is the true story 17 year old Emily Bauer, as told by her family and loved ones. You see, after experimenting with some synthetic marijuana that the teen bought legally at a gas station, she is blind, brain damaged, paralyzed, and likely will not ever speak again.

It all started in December of this past year. When Emily and some friends went to a local gas station and purchased a small packet of "Klimax Potpourri," a name brand for a blend of potpourri that is marketed as a "legal smoking alternative to marijuana." They returned home, and the teens smoked a small amount each of the drug. While most showed signs of intoxication that could be compared to that of marijuana use, Emily quickly developed a migraine, within fifteen minutes of smoking the drug. The side effects of the synthetic marijuana increased dramatically within a small space of time, and Emily told her boyfriend that she wasn't feeling well, and was going to lay down for a while.

It only took a few minutes for Emily's friends to become worried about her, and when they went into the room to check on her, they found her in the middle of a psychotic episode, thrashing violently and urinating on herself. Thinking that she was just "freaking out," or having a bad trip from spice drugs, friends tried to calm her down. Her friends did not realize that Emily had suffered from two separate strokes; caused by the extreme dilation of her blood vessels as the drugs entered her bloodstream. This extreme dilation caused the blood flow to her brain to narrow and finally become completely stopped. The lack of oxygen to her brain next caused hallucinations, sending her into a violent panic.

When friends found Emily in the midst of her K2 overdose, they immediately called police and paramedics; police were needed to hold Emily down, through her psychotic state, and make sure she made it safely to the hospital. Once at the hospital, doctors quickly realized that Emily had had two strokes, and began treating her for the strokes. At first, doctors and Emily's family were hopeful that everything would be okay... That the hallucinations would stop, and she would come down from the drug and be back to normal.

Emily Bauer After -- Courtesy of CNN

3 months later... Emily Bauer never "came down" from the drugs. She is now partially paralyzed, blind, and has severe brain damage that leaves even the simplest tasks difficult.

Emily's parents had no idea she was smoking "legal marijuana." They had caught Emily smoking real marijuana on a few occasions, and had done their parental duties to try and deter her from its use. Emily stopped smoking illegal drugs, but had decided to try this legal alternative to marijuana sold in stores instead.

Obviously distraught by the entire situation, Emily's parents are on a mission to let other parents know about this dangerous drug. Her parents had never heard of K2 or Spice, or other synthetic drugs before that night when Emily suffered her strokes. Now, they have heard of many studies and other teens that have had their lives ruined by the drugs, and Emily's parents simply want to know how it is that this drug can be sold legally in stores.

For now, Emily is making slow progress; and, while she is expected to survive, she has a long path of recovery ahead of her, and she will never recover 100%. The hope is, that Emily's story will make its rounds across the news, and inform parents of the very real dangers posed by this drug, and the rampant availability of it. There are many drug addiction treatment and counseling programs for synthetic marijuana around the country, and these addiction specialists are seeing a high rise in the cases of spice addiction and overdoses. With Emily's story now coming to light, it is essential for parents to be knowledgeable about this drug and its effects. As we now see, this is a powerful and dangerous drug, and parents and children alike need to be warned of the consequences of its use.

If you were asked, "What are the most common foods that give you food poisoning?" Would you know how to answer this? Well the newest studies show that the foods we are still worrying about homogenized and other treated products, that are no longer as much of a safety/health issue, and not realizing the products that have a true potential to make us sick.

Mayonnaise has long been considered as one of the most potentially dangerous foods, when it comes to food-borne illnesses. This is not the case anymore, though. For years now, food scientists have been working on making mayonnaise (which is a naturally made dressing from egg whites, vinegar, and salt) into a safe product. This has led to many preservatives and processes being used to ensure that that mayonnaise has to be far past its prime to be of any danger, even when left in the heat.

Chicken and other raw meats (especially fish) will always carry a risk of illness with them, as they are pieces of living creatures which had microorganisms living in them when they were killed. Cooking to the correct degree will ensure that these foods are safe to eat.

One food that you should very much be concerned with, though, is any product that is raw, and will not be cooked -- primarily fruits and vegetables. More people are sickened every year by fresh fruits and vegetables (that had been cross-contaminated), than by chicken, fish, and dairy products combined; though, it is essential to remember that those sickened by meats and dairy products had a much higher chance of death, than those sickened by fruits and vegetables.

CDC estimates state that 48 million Americans contract a food-borne
illness every year -- with 128,000 of those sickened requiring hospitalization. The biggest concern for the CDC, in recent years, has not been for mayonnaise, or beef products, or poultry, or even shellfish... The biggest cause of sicknesses from food (including the Norovirus) is salads.

But, before your decide that salads are no longer healthy for you, realize that CDC experts stress that the dangers stemming from salads are only due to lack of correct handling, and that all of the ingredients in a fresh salad are much better for your body than any other choice. What they hope the public will realize -- consumers, growers, transporters, and purveyors alike -- is that much more care is needed when preparing these fragile foods. People need to realize that anytime they see a fruit or vegetable, it is "ready-to-eat," and it needs to be treated as such throughout all stages of preparation and cooking.Kayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17220909001344063027noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8550458412853688489.post-8592512706559291312013-01-28T10:03:00.000-08:002013-01-28T10:03:57.771-08:00Drug Overdoses Increase in the Homeless and Impoverished

Impoverished and homeless populations have long had a tie to higher rates of drug use, abuse, and overdose; the most recent studies, show that these rates have skyrocketed in the past few years -- leading to "drug overdose" as the number one cause of death in the homeless and impoverished -- surpassing HIV/AIDS for the first time.

The results of this study came from over 5 years of data provided by homeless individuals participating in Boston's Healthcare for the Homeless program. An isolated case study in the Boston area, researchers promote that this trend can also be related to other urban areas across the United States.

There are a few certain aspects of this research study that do pose problems, however. Firstly, this only applies to those homeless people that took part in the program willingly while alive. There are no specifications as to whether or not all possible overdoses of homeless individuals were originally treated at a hospital -- under the Healthcare for the Homeless program -- or whether or not HIV/AIDS patients were able to migrate from the Healthcare for the Homeless program to other qualified programs. All of these un-specified aspects can definitely cause some wavering in the numbers, but the general concession is that these numbers are correct. More homeless people are dying of drug overdoses these days than from HIV/Aids.

While this does show that HIV/AIDS raids are beginning to slow, it also shows that drug use is quickly passing up traditional diseases as the leading cause of deaths in the US. While we have been making some headway for the past several decades, in offering more public health knowledge, warnings, and information about diseases (especially STDs such as AIDS); this also proves that we have turned a blind eye to those that are struggling with addictions to drugs and alcohol. Health officials are beginning to take the news of these studies as a sign that more needs to be done to offer more drug rehab classes, counseling, and 12 step recovery programs.Kayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17220909001344063027noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8550458412853688489.post-70974793646534014882013-01-24T09:40:00.000-08:002013-01-24T09:40:12.656-08:00Vaccines?
It seems like every week researchers are finding another health indicator that can be tied to increase risk for cancer. This week, we received a new indicator that could be a sign that you are at an increased risk of certain forms of cancer.

Baldness is a plight that affects both men and women, and have been a source of frustration for millions and millions of people throughout time. Mostly a vanity issue -- carrying with it little further health risk -- baldness has always been thought of as more of an unfair annoyance than a serious problem; but these new research studies show that men (out of 10,000 person study) who suffer "male pattern baldness" hair loss were more likely to be diagnosed with a malignant tumor.

There are several different thoughts on why there is such a strong link between prostate cancer and baldness, and most of the ideas center around hormones or age, as the proverbial x-factor. This is where the researchers and physicians begin to take one of two sides. Some health professionals believe that since both hair loss and cancer have proven links to genetics, that a combination of age and genetic history causes the link. Other health professionals believe that the links are tied more to hormones; whereas, excess testosterone can hinder and slow hair growth, this hormone also can cause or provoke the growth of cancerous cells. The hormone-side argues that prostate issues can cause increased testosterone, which in-turn cause the early baldness, and risk of prostate cancer later in life. The other side argues that the inherent genetic trait that causes male pattern baldness must also be tied to a genetically inherited risk.

Whichever side you take on the argument, it is really just concentrating on the "chicken and egg theory," while ignoring the fact that this is a true indicator for increased risk. Though an individual is not going to be subject to a 100% risk for cancer, but males that lose their hair early in life should recognize the connection and consider themselves "at risk." These individuals should make it a priority to have more frequent prostate exams and screenings.Kayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17220909001344063027noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8550458412853688489.post-36847719669167356822013-01-22T12:53:00.000-08:002013-01-22T12:53:52.511-08:00Addiction Treatment Magazine Offers Answers

Popular health and behavioral health publication Addiction Treatment Magazine recently gave itself a makeover and solidified its plans for a new direction in its format. The new format is driven to scope the website toward those that have questions related to health (including drug use and treatment) and other topics. The goal is to have a web-based resource, filled with thousands of articles and real-life stories that can answer the questions that individuals, teens, and parents have. By continually updating these stories and informational articles, Addiction Treatment Magazine hopes to be the destination for those with health questions to find the answers, without being led astray by any untrue, misconceived, or misleading information that is also found on the internet.

The truth of the matter is, people take their questions and go to the internet to find the answers. Most of the time, a solid, thorough, and truthful answer can be found. Other times, the internet has been packed with mis-information, dis-information, or confusing information. Addiction Treatment Magazine, will work hard to establish itself as a knowledgeable, and trustworthy source of information in a sea of "iffy" information.

In the coming weeks and months, Addiction Treatment Magazine will be filling its website new content, and establishing its authority online as trusted and "real" resource. Visit them online for more articles, stories, reviews, and more...

Karl Storz, a physician that has often been called "The Father of Endoscopy," began producing surgical instruments for ENT specialists in 1945.

Nearly 70 years later, Karl Storz designed medical instruments are still the most popular type of devices in-use in hospitals and medical centers. The fluid designs of a Storz instrument is usually a smooth, flowing, thin, stainless steel lever with its appropriate head shape in a very tight and effective design. Storz was also one of the first doctors to experiment with image transition through bent scopes. This allowed for doctors to use "cold" light either emitted from an instrument inside the body, or emitted outside the body, and reflected downward into the body.

Food intolerance is still a part of nutritional science that baffles experts and nutritional scientists all over the world. Food intolerance and food allergies can either be inherent, or with an individual since birth, but they can also be developed later in life, sometimes seemingly-overnight.

The most popular food intolerance -- in terms of commonness -- is lactose intolerance: an intolerance to food made from dairy, intolerance to dairy products themselves, or an intolerance to products containing nutrients and vitamins commonly found in milk and dairy. Some scientists argue that the prevalence of lactose intolerance is so widespread because mammals are only supposed to have dairy in their diet during the initial developmental stages of life and growth. After this time period, we are supposed to switch to a "regular" diet. While this is a popular opinion, and is backed up by the fact that Native Americans were severely lactose intolerant when introduced to dairy products by the original American Settlers, no studies have proved this to be fact.

The truth of the matter is that the body has the last say in which foods we accept naturally, and which ones we grow an intolerance to. If the body does not accept a foreign food, it will produce histamine to fight off the foreign invader, causing a multitude of food intolerance symptoms.

While it is a well known fact that the heart, liver, kidney, and lung functions of the body can be severely affected by obesity, new information is shining light on the effects that too much fat cause on the brain as well. The brain is our most sacred of organs, giving us the ability to think, ponder, and respond to all outside influences in our lives, so even the smallest affect on the brain is one to be concerned about, and take action against.

What scientists found, was that eating high-fat diets can cause physical changes in the brain. These changes, have a shocking similarity to the changes that occur in the brain during the development to drugs, alcohol or other substances. These changes, scientists believe, is the actual physical formation of an addiction. These changes develop quickly, before the "addiction" has even fully matured. What this means is that: for a drug addict, the addiction is formed in the brain before the addiction has fully taken hold; and for an over-eater, the addiction to fatty foods is formed early, before the weight itself becomes an issue. This gives us so many clues as to why overweight individuals have such a hard time laying off of fatty foods, successfully diet, or strictly adhere to diet plans.

The medical industry has seen a large expansion in the United States in recent years, with the opening of hundreds of hospitals, thousands of medical centers, and hundreds of schools and technical programs offering education for jobs based in the medical industry. Partially due to the rapid growth of medical knowledge and technical breakthroughs, health care and health care professionals are in high demand currently.

The medical imaging sector has seen a good portion of the overall growth, with more students seeking education for nuclear medicine service degrees than any other sector in the medical industry. It is a very good thing that so many students have decided to go down this avenue of medical studies, because more and more medical centers are beginning to house their own medical imaging centers on premises, rather than referring patients to another location to have their scans done. This means that many more technicians are needed globally that have been trained in CT scanner processes.

It isn't just medical professionals who are reaping the benefits of job availability, technicians are also needed who can service and repair the actual imaging machines as well. These machines, such as PET scanners, Cardio MDs, Gamma cameras, and Biograph 16 machines, are highly technical and require skilled workers to be able to rectify any problems or glitches that the machines may encounter. With so many of these machines popping up around the country, engineers that are trained in maintenance and repair of the devices are highly sought after.

Several years ago, when synthetic marijuana (Often called K2 or Spice) began to gain popularity all over the United States as a legal replacement for marijuana, many users of the drug felt that since the desired affects obtained from smoking synthetic marijuana so closely resembled actual marijuana, that the negative effects would also be low and not serious. Now, as users have been abusing the drugs for some time, we have some insights into what the short and long term effects of synthetic marijuana use can include.

Circulatory

As it turns out, smoking synthetic marijuana has a devastating effect on the circulatory system as a whole. Depending on the strength of the "spice blend," a user's blood pressure can rise to dangerously high levels after just one "hit" of the drug. Not only does the inhaled smoke of this drug dilate the blood vessels to extreme levels, but the smoke also irritates the lining of the lungs so much, that the tissues begin to swell immediately have inhaling, inhibiting strong, deep breaths.

Skin

Drug rehab treatment centers treating addicts who have been smoking synthetic marijuana for extended periods of time have noticed skin issues in addicts that mirror the issues seen in users of methamphetamine. Burns and sores are common, as the chemicals cause a numbing sensation to the skin as it is leaving a user's body. These "down times" when an abuser is not using synthetic marijuana, the skin gives a crawling feeling, causing the individual to pick at or peel skin.

While these are just a few of the synthetic marijuana side effects found, side effects are plentiful with this drug. It is arguable that synthetic marijuana causes more common, acute, mild, and severe side effects than any other drug on the market. Ranging from constant pain, COPD, Hypertension, low blood sugar, atrophy, and more, these side effects are not light side effects -- these are quite serious. In light of these findings, drug addiction rehab professionals are shocked, and are striving to get users of this dangerous drug into addict treatment immediately, before additional damage to their bodies is done.

The prospect of it has doctors and non-professionals buzzing all around the world; could it be possible to cure addiction, simply by hypnotizing the addict out of a yearn-for or dependency-to drugs?

The question is being asked, and quite seriously, by some researchers. In an article on Hypnosis addiction treatment from Addiction Treatment Magazine, proponents of the treatment tout the practice's ability to lessen and/or alleviate stress, manage pain, improve health, and positively affect one's overall mood and stride. Not only does the hypnosis provide successful cessation from drugs and alcohol, but also helps the patient feel more under control of his/her addiction recovery program.

While the practice is still in its infancy, preliminary results have been exceptionally promising, and could usher in a brand new way of thinking when it comes to treatment of addiction.
Drugs: The Biggest Danger in Schools

With the horrors that unfolded only a few weeks ago in Newtown, Connecticut, many parents are holding a more vigilant eye out for dangers hidden within their children's schools. But are the worries about guns in schools outshining the more common and very real danger of drugs in schools?

The debate over gun control and the danger guns pose to school students has literally overtaken the airwaves for several weeks now and has some parents wondering why this one incident is overshadowing the constant threat of drugs in educational facilities and campuses.

It estimated that over half of all drug purchases and use by students in grades 1-12 take place on school campuses. The social, educational, and recreational center for kids ages 8-18 is the school, so it is no surprise that if a young adult or child were to come into contact with drugs and/or alcohol, it would likely be on school grounds. This, however, is still an unacceptable statistic, and proves the necessity for a hard look at exactly what we are doing to ensure our children's safety in schools.

While minimal efforts have been made to curb drug possession and use in schools, many feel that the efforts simply do not go far enough. Some parents feel that drug counseling programs in schools would be sufficient, while other parents feel that this is not necessary.

As it stands, if a student is caught with drugs or alcohol on campus, zero-tolerance policies simply expel that student, and the student must go to school elsewhere. Absolutely no sorts of drug rehab or drug counseling programs are provided nor offered.

While the recent school shootings are spurring reform in keeping students safe from the extreme chance that a mentally-troubled student will bring a gun onto campus, absolutely no changes are being looked into for the common problem that a perfectly normal student might bring drugs onto the campus.Kayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17220909001344063027noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8550458412853688489.post-28411014891753519452012-12-21T12:02:00.002-08:002012-12-21T12:02:59.506-08:00Winter Back Pains

Have you been experiencing severe back pains this winter? Well, let us explain why this may be. 2012 was a very strange year climate-wise. The summer saw extended warmth, not so much heat waves, but a steady warmth. As summer passed into winter -- through autumn -- there was never a single moment when temperatures really snapped to lower temps quickly. This slow turn of the seasons could be to blame for the extended periods of time when you experience joint aches or back pain.

Pittsburgh Chiropractic practice, Grice Chiropractic has noticed the trend this winter of many patients stating that they have always had mild pain, but this year it is simply unbearable. This is likely due to the fact that the colder temperatures have slowly entered the US this year, leaving a painfully long term for the body to adjust to the cold. These pains we feel are indicators of wear, past breaks, or deficiencies in parts of the body. In-short, the pains are your body telling you that there is a problem right here, and the cold is flaring it up.

This initial signal is meant for the body to warn the brain to be careful of these areas in its daily activities. What patients should take from this, is that no matter what the weather looks like, those problems are existent, and need treatment. Scheduling an appointment with your chiropractor can help to investigate these pains and fully diagnose the problems.
Organic fruits and vegetables really are -- an opinion doctors have voiced -- much better for you than genetically modified or processed products. The levels of raw nutrients, antioxidants, and vitamins in naturally grown organic produce trumps the levels found in chemically treated produce. Though the fruit of a "treated" plant may be much larger in size and have a much more pleasant appearance, this is mostly due to chemicals and antibiotics, and is no indicator of the health benefits and values of the plants fruit.

The best thing you can do for your body and health is to start eating more organic fruits and vegetables. But, with prices of organic fruits and vegetables being sometimes up to 10x the price of treated produce, it can be difficult -- financially -- to keep these products in your refrigerator and/or kitchen shelves. One great way to avoid the expenses of purchasing organics, is to simply grow them yourself.

Now, don't get nervous, growing organic vegetables and fruit trees is actually quite easy. Willis Orchards is an online purveyor of fruit trees, accessories, and a reference for keeping them alive and healthy. Willis Orchards makes owning and caring for orchard trees simple and effective. The trees themselves -- whether you decide on an apple, orange, or fig tree -- can be purchased as seeds, seedlings, or adolescent trees. The trees can then be shipped to any place in the United States, and planted in what space you have for plants.
According to recent studies, the overall sales of prescription painkillers have increased shockingly from the year 2000 to 2010. The prescription drugs involved are all opiates.

The Associated Press analyses state that the highest increases were seen in Appalachia and in suburban communities. This is significant, as the epidemic abuse of prescription drugs originally saw their highest figures in urban areas, poor Appalachian communities, and near the Mexico and Canadian borders; now, new data shows that the trend is migrating outward from these epicenters at an alarming rate. Drug rehabs in California are seeing many more patients suffering from addiction to painkillers entering their 12 step treatment centers, than from heroin, cocaine, or any other illicit drugs.

In 2008, terminal overdoses from oxycodone and hydrocodone rose to a staggering 14,800 deaths. This, coupled with sales of the drug raking in more than a billion dollars per year, is evidence of the obvious epidemic.

While pharmacies are literally on every single corner, there simply aren't enough drug rehabs to counter the rampant availability of these drugs, so the war against them is a losing battle. Doctor-shopping is often the way that addicts get their drugs. Going from one doctor to the next, and one pharmacy to the next. This makes it easy for addicts, as if they are red-flagged as a possible abuser of the prescriptions, they simply move on to the next doctor or pharmacy.

If you or one of your loved ones is suffering from an addiction to prescription drugs, there is hope for them. Above It All Treatment is a drug rehab in California that knows how to treat those with severe addictions to prescription drugs.
The United States has a reputation around the world that is less than flattering. Many in other countries have a discriminate view of Americans; caricaturing them as fat, lazy, and unhealthy. While this may sting for an American to hear, new studies prove that as a whole, Americans are overweight, under-exercised, and very unhealthy.

This stigma is clearly supported in the recent reports, as many of the epidemic diseases Americans face are nearly completely avoidable. Diabetes, Obesity, and high blood pressure -- when not tied to an inherited trait -- can all be avoided altogether through healthy diet and exercise.

With an 18% drop in the rate of premature deaths in our country, the U.S. life expectancy grew to 78.5 years in 2009, the highest it has ever been. So why the epidemic of chronic and persistent -- avoidable -- diseases? The answer is: though our medical practices and treatments are saving lives and extending lifespans, Americans live unhealthy lifestyles throughout those long lives. These longer lives are filled with more and more treatments and diagnoses throughout individual's lives, however our medical practices are sufficient in keeping people alive and on treatments for extended periods of time.

The top two unhealthiest states were revealed today to be Mississippi and Louisiana. These states took the top spots due to their unreasonably high prevalence of diabetes, obesity, and low birth weights; all diagnoses with definite links to poor diet and health choices.

The announcement that we as Americans are living longer than ever is a bittersweet announcement, as its bottom side states that American's health, in general, is on a shocking decline. Experts insist that the overwhelmingly bad bill of health for our country is undeniably attributed to poor health choices, and persist that these recent bad numbers are 100% reversible, if only we make the choice.Kayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17220909001344063027noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8550458412853688489.post-91241163214691165532012-12-12T09:34:00.000-08:002012-12-12T09:34:33.555-08:00Military Cracking Down On Alcohol Abuse

In recent months, the top military brass have been adamant about putting into place restrictions against the abuse of alcohol by its soldiers at home and abroad. Stemming from the October accusations that two soldiers sexually assaulted a woman in Okinawa while intoxicated, The Department of Defense found that the rate of binge drinking and alcohol abuse amongst its soldiers was "epidemic," and called their findings "a public health crisis."

In an act to not only cut down on the rates of binge drinking, but also to support those soldiers with alcohol addictions and severe dependency problems, lobbyists are trying to reorganize the benefits offered by the military's health care system TRICARE. Currently, TRICARE does not offer sufficient benefits for those needing to enter chemical dependency treatment programs, or require anti-addiction drugs such as Suboxone.

New Dawn Recovery Center is a drug treatment and eating disorder center in California; New dawn has seen a large influx of returning vets and active military seeking treatment for alcohol and drug abuse. As a dual diagnosis residential treatment center, New Dawn is used to dealing with dual diagnoses. Many of the returning vets that enter treatment also have underlying conditions, such as post traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), that strengthen the addiction and make it more severe.

The biggest concern to military leaders is the trend of binge drinking among its active military. Binge Drinking entails consuming extremely large amounts of alcohol over a short period of time in order to sate the need for alcohol before extended periods of time when the soldier is not allowed to drink. Statistics collected state that 47% of active military personnel admit to participating in this binge drinking ritual regularly; a statistic that shows a huge negative threat to the health of U.S. troops.

The Department of Defense states that its policy is: [to] "prevent and eliminate drug and alcohol abuse and dependence from the Department of Defense." Still, the hangups with coverage for treatment through TRICARE is more or less at a standstill at the moment, and many of the soldiers most in need of treatment do not have the option of seeking it.

Until reform can be made through TRICARE and at the department of defense, policies have been put in place to try and curb the out-of-control drinking by soldiers, yet putting a policy in-place to treat these individuals is held back by red tape. In the meantime, New Dawn Recovery is still accepting and treating patients from a military background, and has openings in its New Dawn Recovery programs for any and all of the Armed Forces personnel.Kayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17220909001344063027noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8550458412853688489.post-69416578422597279362012-12-11T09:02:00.000-08:002012-12-11T09:02:57.624-08:00Childrens' Martial Arts Builds Stronger Adults

We all have heard of the benefits that have been touted, insisting that karate and martial arts classes instills values and lessons in those participating that are unmatched in other outlets. Many martial arts movies show this in scenes of the young apprentice learning life lessons from the old master. In this case, Hollywood didn't have to stretch the truth.

Karate classes not only teach essential self defense techniques that build and tone muscle, but also it also teaches mental patience, calming techniques, and control. Elite Defense Systems -- located in Rockford, Illinois -- knows very well the value of the teachings of their various art-forms. Elite's Rockford Krav Maga classes, kickboxing, and MMA training draw pupils of every age, but it is the children who tend to absorb the most benefits from these holistic programs.

The younger entrants attain regular exercise, strength building, and muscle control skills through Elite's Rockford martial arts classes, and the positive effects of this program can be seen at home and in school as well; with the better focus and concentration that can be developed through martial arts, many students begin to excel in other aspects of their life as well.
